Great insurance spare
I currently have an 8 year old 24 port switch, and for $40, I purchased this unit as an insurance in case the original gives out. I tested it on two ports and it worked. It is now in my closet. If I never need it, so what? $40 is a cheap insurance policy.

Good value ethernet switch
Pros: Simple. As an unmannaged switch the NETGEAR ProSafe JFS524 takes extremely little step time. Connect the switch to a router and other devices on the network with ethernet cables, give the switch power and it just works. Built-in power supply. The switch is powered with a standard IEC 320 power cable (computer power cable). No "wall wart" to loss or take up extra space on a power strip. Price. This is an older switch and by today's standards entry level switch. Hence this switch should be cheap to purchase. Cons: Not a Gigabit switch. This should be expected seeing this is an older switch. A little bulky. I've seen smaller 24 port switches before but most have external power supplies. Be ready to make room for this switch if you're replacing ... Pros: Simple. does as an ethernet switch should. only complaint is i didnt get a manual with my used one and it took me ages to figure out that it is an auto-uplink, meaning it doesnt matter which port you plug the input into.

Everything was as described
Switch was new in original box which was overpacked into a slightly larger box. It showed no shipping damage or even scuffing on the original box. Unpacked the switch, shut down my 16-port switch, put this one in using 20 0f the 24 ports, plugged it in. It came right up and is running now. I am happy.
