This switch had reviews that indicated that it had heat issues. I've had it going about a month or so and really haven't had any heat issues or performance issues. Like other smart switches, you plug it in and it takes off and does it's thing. I haven't done any diagnostic testing on it with any programs that output metrics that could be compared but it seems compatible to the Linksys 5 port switches that I was running before, maybe a little faster. I added some equipment and needed more than 8 ports and I was faced with buying a third 5 port switch or getting something that could accommodated all the ports I needed. Because it does have 16 ports, running one of these switches is better than 3 of the five port switches in the aspects of power consumption and cost. The cost was obviously more 1 5-port switch but if you need several, the cost adds up; now, I only have one device taking up room in the Lan box instead of 3 that I would have needed. It's mostly used for pass-through Internet access, I do pass large amounts of data during back-ups from one computer to a central location; and the kids use it to play Lan games one-on-one and there's no lag or excessive wait time to start the games. I understand that I don't really put it through the ringer like a business environment may but for what I would call heavy personal home use, I haven't had any issues and it works like a champ.Read full review

In the interest of full disclosure, I did not open the box and install this switch. This is my third SD-216 ethernet switch, which I bought as a spare. I built my wired in-home Ethernet network in 2003 and 2004. An essential part of that network is my 16-port Ethernet switch. (I have Ethernet ports in four bedrooms, two home offices, and the family room.) My first switch failed in 2009, some six years after it was installed. Last month my network failed again, and I blamed the switch. I was wrong--my gateway, which supplies the operating software for the switch, simply required a reset. But the incident reminded me that my switch could fail again (it has been running for 11 years), and that spares are harder and harder to find. So I bought a new one. If I am lucky, I will never have to use it.Read full review

This unit worked but I pulled it from my home network due to unit getting way to hot to hold. Not sure if I just got a bad unit but if someone asked me I wouldn’t recommend this particular item to anyone due to the experience I had with this one..

Easy to use and setup, just plug in and it's good to go. Very fast connection. Great for the price.
