Purchased this to handle LACP aggregated ports, which the 2824/16 switches do not support. This switch has loud fans if you are using this in a quiet office. If you are placing it in a rack with a few other servers making noise, you won't notice a thing. Chassis is sturdy metal the whole way around. It does needs rack ears (not included in the one I purchased), and the switch itself takes up the whole width of the 1U. Updating the firmware was very simple, searched for the Svc tag on dell's site, downloaded the files, unzipped and uploaded via http.

It was packaged for shipping very well. Defaulted Switch. Upgraded firmware to latest available. L2 access via Telnet, SSH & HTTP is working. Ports 15 to 20 have been tested to be working. So far the Dell 5424 is working as expected. No issues found.
Perfect 24 port fully managed switch for my place with gig to the house! Took a little playing to get the mgmt software reset, but no problem after that.
