The SonicWall NSA 220 is a high availability firewall appliance perfect for securing networks and network devices. The unit has LAN and WAN ports, and 5 additional ports that are software configurable. You can setup rules for blocking or allowing pretty much any combination of ports and IP addresses in and out.
We used this to put public-facing webservers in a "DMZ" and then locking down (blocking) all traffic to the rest of the network.
Our challenge was that we needed enterprise-class features and protection without busting the budget. This device is the low-end / entry-level option within "Enterprise Class" if that makes sense. We ran 4 public web servers with all different port/service needs.
I've run SonicWall appliances (this one and others before it) for 10-15 years and never once had a failure or a problem. This unit is all solid-state (flash memory chips, etc.) so there are no moving parts (hard disks etc.) to fail.
