Extremely effective compression algorithm - Adaptive Loss-less Data Compression (ALDC) - has been proved to boost the capacity and transfer rate by 2.6 times (average). Compact 3.5-inch design enables easy installation, Memory-In-Cassette (MIC) Phase-2 supporting multiple partitions enables middle point load/unload for faster access to data. Ultra Wide SCSI I/F meets the challenges of fast data transfer.New drum with Hyper Metal heads and read amplifier minimizes read errors maximizing overall performance. Remote sensing MIC enhances interface life, and can replace barcode systems in the libraries with richer information. Further reduced tape tension and Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME) tape with Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC) coating free eliminates the need for regular use of cleaning tape. Full read and write compatibility with AIT-1, even at a faster (4MB/s) transfer rate, protects previous technology investment. The AIT format is committed to preserving full compatibility across all generations. In line with the original roadmap, Sony starts volume shipment of the second generation AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape). The AIT-2 offers doubled performance: recording capacity of 50GBytes per cartridge and the transfer rate of 6MBytes per second (both native).
